Evonik to develop production strategy of polyamide 12

Evonik worked well for development of totally undeveloped integrated plant to manufacture polyamide 12 for about five decades in Marl Chemical Site. Now, the company has elaborated its production up to 5,000 metric tons, that’s how giving hike to the supply of VESTAMID. Apart from the production of this highly efficient polymer, production of VESTOSINT, a polyamide powder has been promoted. For this purpose, the company is now planning improvement of traditional process for production of polyamide 12. The company began production of polymers from butadiene and has gone through all the precursors of polyamide 12. With the ongoing production, facilities for this purpose have been expanded in 2000 and the strategy of facility elaboration leads the process towards constant growth and promotion of products in the market. According to the head of Performance Polymers at Evonik, Dr. Michael Pack, substitutes of VESTAMID are also in demand and the company has set its obligation to meet the demand of market as an automotive industry. Various technologies are being applied for production of the polymer and the company possesses a well prepared route for production of polyamide now.

Total SA, the oil and gas giant plans for launching bio-based resins

Many are here nowadays to carry out research and production deals in polyethylene; same is applicable on Total SA, the French integrated oil and gas giant in Europe. According to the statement of the company’s spokesperson during a Society of Plastics Engineers conference, Total has plan now to enter the NA rotational molding market with the vision of introducing efficient biopolymers in the industry. As the company is working for production of rotomolding resin in Europe for many years, the company is interested to do something innovative and better to meet the demand of eco friendly era. For production of bio-resins, the company is working to combine polylactic acid based biopolymers with polyolefins; further production of polymers is carried out through the fermentation process. Apart from all this, the technology giant has evolved a technique of recycling products. Despite of winning packaging applications, the demand of rotomolding is there to inspire the company for innovative deals. Just being eco-friendly is not enough for jumping into rotomolding but some additional properties in biomaterials also work well. Processing of PLA is easy and rotational molding is possible in case of pure PLA.

Innovia to dive into the production of biolaminate layers for packaging

Innovia, an established name in the world of biopackging preparation has joined hands with Bio4pack, Caturra Coffee and QV Foods for production of far efficient Biolamination Layer. Basically, a biolamination product bears one or two layers made up of non plastic but adhesive substrate. Actually, the conventional lamination layer possesses toxic effects on human health, that’s why production of bio based laminate layer is being entertained by the company. According to the marketing manager of packaging and sustainability of the company, Andy Sweetman, most of the customers don’t understand while buying products that the laminate layer in packaging of those products consists of two or more layers which are laminated together, so that their properties also joins together to develop some toxic effects. The principle of biobased lamination is based upon the idea of excluding those conventional products from the list and replacing it with far sustainable bioproducts. In this way, the two most important results to be appreciated are recycling of the product becomes possible and the product can be subjected for renewable deals.

Innovia is known well for utilizing the Natureflex Film, a high gloss layer with degree of permeability for moisturizing the packaging in order to prevent dehydration on a side as this can lead to growth of moulds on the other side.

Meridian Inc to harvest its first Canola crop for production of bioplastics

The first Canola crop by a Meredian Inc., the Georgia based company is ready to manufacture biopolymers. According to the company’s spokesperson, raw material for the production of bioplastic products will be evolved with the help of this crop. Local fields around the production site are employed for cultivation of the crop. The most important thing in this entire process is the Canola oil but it is really a costly source. On the other hand, any plant derivative oil can be used as an option for conversion of carbon into biopolymers. Canola is the best for this process as it can be grown locally without any additional efforts. This idea cuts down the cost of freight and care of the far situated crop.
