Wageningen University to compile the first edition of bio-based packaging catalog

The Wageningen University in Netherlands has compiled the first edition of bio-based packaging catalog. This catalog has been represented by the Ministry of Economics affair to the NVC Netherlands packaging center. As sustainable packaging is being emphasized much by various productions companies of the world, the catalog has been designed to offer a comprehensive overview of different kinds of bio-packaging options available now and applications where they are being used. The ideas mentioned in the catalog have been put together in collaboration with various producers of bio-packaging materials. The objective of this catalog is to track possibilities for utilization of bio-based packaging and sustainable products on commercial level.

SEKAB to collaborate with locally grown plastics for development of bio-based products

Locally grown plastics is working now under an exclusive which involves complete production chain for bio-plastics. This project is in collaboration between SEKAB. As SP Processum is the leading sponsor the company is expected to utilize full resources from forest industry and packaging manufacturers. Moreover, additional partners of the project are Holmen, Sodra, Borealis, Trioplast, Sveakog and Tetra Pak. According to the Ylwa Alwarsdotter, the executive vice president of SEKAB’s Market Development, locally grown plastics are an important milestone for promotion of biobased economy. This plan can support the industry to experience its efficiency. As many types of plastics are manufactured from oil, sustainable society can help the industry to evolve a whole new trend in this field. Whether one talks about raw materials for development of bio-based plastics or alternatives for the same, Brazil has gained extensive reputation in the bio-based industry for production of quality bio plastics.  

Thore Lindgren, the Executive Vice President of SEKAB E technology states that use of biomass is the matter of great selection for chemical production industry. Developed countries like Australia, Asia and China just centralize their attention on agricultural residues so that they can easily evaluate the production chain and its benefits. Identification of technological changes is also an important part of the processing.
