BioAmber and Vinmar international to sign 15 year contract on succinic acid

BioAmber declared today to sign up a take or pay contract of 210,000 per year with Vinmar International. The leading industrial biotechnology company signed this contract for biosuccinic acid under rules of 15 year agreement. According to the contract, the joint venture of Mitsui & Co. and BioAmber, BioAmber Sarnia commits to sell 10K tons of succinic acid per annum through the 30,000 ton per year capacity while Vinmar commits to purchase the same. This 15 year agreement of production and sales of succinic acid is based upon the under constructed plant in Sarnia which will offer production facilities to BioAmber.

The under constructed plant for the production of biosuccinic acid is the part of this master take off agreement  which will undergo expansion up to annual capacity of 70K ton of bio-succinic acid and100K tons of bio BDO. Alternatively, Vinmar can secure extra bio-succinic acid tonnage under the take-or-pay contract in case BioAmber does not commits rest of the volume at the time financing of the plant becomes secured.

In the projected plant for biosuccinic acid, Vinmar plans to invest 10 percent of the equity; BioAmber expects to start the plant till 2020on the basis of projected development of the succinic acid industry.

Succinity, the joint venture of Corbion and Purac to be launched soon

Corbion Purac and BASF joined hands for manufacturing and commercialization of biosuccinic acid. This joint venture is called as Succinity GmbH which is going to start its first commercial production soon. Corbion purac has its plant in Montmelo, Spain with the annual capacity of 10,000 t and production of the commercial quantity for global market is being carried out by this plant. According to the company, the final decision for facility will be made on the basis of a global market’s requirement. Philipp Walter, the manager of Succinity stated that the start up of the first facility for biosuccinic acid in futureis key milestone in the plan for becoming major producer of biosuccinic acid. Bio-Succinic Acid Contract Signed Between PTT-MCC and Bioamber

BioAmber is joining hand with PTT-MCC Biochem for its first succinic acid take or pay contract; in 2011, this collaboration was formed between PTT Public Company Limited of Thailand and Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation. Establishment of PTT-MCC for formation of development of PBS (Polybutylene Succinate), this is a biodegradable plastic developed with butanediol and succinic acid. Currently, this company is developing its first PBS plant in Rayong, Thailand. According to the expectation, the PBS plant will be ready for operations till 2015; it will consume about 14 ktpa of succinic acid while its capacity will be of 20 ktpa. Analysis of the current PBS market from the aspect of Tecnon OrbiChem, the current PBS manufacturers shows that many challenges are there in the market nowadays. As per the BioAmber’s recent report, engineering for the plant is about to complete and 95 percent of all equipments has been ordered for timely delivery. The Sarnia project is going well from schedule and budget point of view. In this way, BioAmber will be able to supply minimum of 80 percent (11.2 ktpa) of biosuccinic acid required by PTT-MCC; this will be possible after commissioning of PTT-MCC’s PBS plant and Sarnia biosuccinic acid plant.
