Marco Adem, the founder of AK Inovex has developed cost effective method for plastic processing

Conventional plastic recycling process includes lots of water. Avoiding this waste is possible now through an innovative green technology that needs no any inclusion of water; developed by the Mexico based AK Inovex, this process has capacity of processing materials such as polystyrene, Styrofoam and ABS. for this purpose, a customizable series of devices is being applied. Marco Adame, the developer of this technology states that the process is able to process over 90 percent plastic without any inclusion of water and decreases the manufacturing cost up to 50 percent. One more thing to notice here is that the quality of the stuff does not ever decrease with the cost of production. During the entire processing, various stages with different temperatures are avoided.

Marco further states that the actual process of getting recycled beads include washing and further grinding plastic containers. But the AK Inovex’s technology is feasible as it needs lesser space in comparison to the traditional process, resulting in better quality stuff. The foremost advantage of this process is that it is capable of processing all kind of plastics. This is how; recycling can be made more beneficial. During the next year, company plans for changing its policy and will add an eco friendly washing device for plastic products.

VTT in Finland plans to develop eco-friendly option for polystyrene

EPS i.e. Expanded Polystyrene is nothing but a waste product as it is utilized as packaging material and insulator all around the world. VTT, a technical Research Centre in Finland is working for development of a reasonable and eco friendly option for polystyrene from PLA bioplastic. PLA is a biopolymer made up of renewable materials using lactic acid. The research centre is looking for excellent methods for foaming the bioplastics in order to prepare beads which can be later subjected for refining into insulators. Although, EPS is a non toxic product but degrades into a waste product so it is important to replace it with some eco-friendly material. Burning of EPS is harmful as the compounds resulting from this process are health hazardous.

It is very important to consider the proper environment for foaming of bioplastics with the help of CO2. VTT is planning for introducing development of the product in industrial processing including lab work and factory testing. Thus, the research group wants new partners for a collaborative program in this direction and carrying out effective operations.

One more thing to know here is that PLA products similar to the polystyrene ones are in existence yet but they are costlier so VTT is looking for the idea for production of efficient and cheaper products.

PLA foam from Synprodo is finally in the market

Germany in the month of September saw the FachPack 2013 exhibition where the world got to know a company which is based in Netherlands, has launched its first BioFoam made from Poly lactic acid or PLA as it is popularly known. Synbra Holding which is known for manufacturing expanded polypropylene, EPP, and expanded polystyrene, EPS, and this BioFoam is going to an alternative to both of these, as the materials which this uses is different than the above mentioned products, PLA, which is prepared from cassava starch and sugar cane which are renewable materials. Synprodo is a part of Synbra Holding.
Carbon dioxide is what is impregnated in PLA pellets, and expanded by a temperature change into BioFoam beads, which can directly be applied into various processes like the cavity fill insulation, or can be further processed for other purposes or packaging.

Since it is not degradable at room temperature and is still bio degradable BioFoam can be used and re used without any loss in the material or quality, said Synprodo. This BioFoam comes with a certification from Cradle to Cradle which is prestigious and according to Synprodo it is the very first time that a biodegradable foam as been entitled to this award.
