Global Bioenergies to carry out isobutene production through fermentation process

According to the latest announcement by Global Bioenergies the company has carried out it’s first isobutene production trial successfully. The process has been carried out in Pomacle-Bazancourt, the industrial pilot of the company. The industrial pilot installation was taken under consideration through a series of functional and mechanical validations. The production took place on Nov, 2014 and resulted the first production of fermentative isobutene wonderfully.

Since 2008, Global Bioenergies is working for development of fermentation process for gaseous isobutene. For this purpose, a series of various sized laboratory scale pilot was conducted. Next in the process was scaling up system and adaptation to the industrial environment. Total finance of 4 million Euro from the French state was attained to meet this novel technical challenge.

The main objective on which the company worked is creation of a fermenter which has been adapted for fermenting gaseous hydrocarbons. The mechanical and functional validations together made the phase longer and the company decided to meet the essential safety conditions for the first trial. Being the first time for production of isobutene through fermentation, this process is highly in discussion in the biotech world. In order to optimize the process and manufacturing samples further, a campaign will be run during upcoming months.

ABBI The Brazilian Industrial Biotech Association Commences

Brazil is moving step by step forward in the direction of development in the biotech industry. Multiple leading biotech companies in the country are joining forces together to form the ABBI i.e. Brazilian Industrial Biotechnology Association. The main objective of this combined effort of reputed companies like BP, BioChemtex, BASF, GranBio, Amyris, DuPont, Novozymes and Rhodia is to foster the plan of developing industrial biotechnology in the Brazilian society. To support this awesome project financially, BNDES, the Brazilian Development Bank has invested R$1.2 billion. During the upcoming Bio World Congress in Philadelphia, discussion about investment strategy of the group will occur. GranBio and UFRJ are also involved in groups supporting the ABBI financially. Full story on this matter can be read here- http://greenchemicalsblog.com/2014/05/05/brazilian-industrial-biotech-association-abbi-launched/

On other hand, ABBI is also looking for the chance of promoting a dialogue to policy makers and stakeholders for improvement of the country’s biotechnology regulations; they want some upgrading in this direction. Good investments are being done R&D programs, capacity and training for getting skilled man resources. The newly formed biotechnology group is also looking for the way to collaborate among educational institutions and the biotech industry all over the country and regions around it. All the collaborating companies of ABBI are producing biobased renewable products using sugarcane as feedstock.

Verdezyne Achieves Key Production Landmark

Verdezyne, Inc. is has recently declared that it is capable of manufacturing over a metric ton of bio based DDDA (dodecanedioic acid) through yeast formation and downstream processing. The company is known well as a private industrial biotech firm working on production of non renewable Verdezyne chemicals. According to the information given in http://greenchemicalsblog.com/2014/04/23/verdezyne-reaches-key-production-milestone/ the company is looking for the way to association with MBI (Michigan Biotechnology Institute) and MSU (Michigan State University) for carrying out the production of DDDA process up to 4K liter scale. This manufacturing process is enough to evaluate scalability of the company and its efficiency for developing polymer class material for customers.

DDDA is a kind of chemical to be applied for the production of nylon, lubricants, powder coatings, adhesives and molding resins. The product is conventionally developed from petroleum based butadiene through a chemical process following multiple steps. Apart from the above mentioned uses of DDDA, the chemical is used as fishing line, fuel lines and bristles of brushes. Apart from Verdezyne, Invista, Evonik and Ube are well known producers of dodecanedioic acid. There is no lack of the firms to undertake analysis of DDDA development for a progressive approach and assurance of great contribution in the world of bio based chemical.
