Global Bioenergies to carry out isobutene production through fermentation process

According to the latest announcement by Global Bioenergies the company has carried out it’s first isobutene production trial successfully. The process has been carried out in Pomacle-Bazancourt, the industrial pilot of the company. The industrial pilot installation was taken under consideration through a series of functional and mechanical validations. The production took place on Nov, 2014 and resulted the first production of fermentative isobutene wonderfully.

Since 2008, Global Bioenergies is working for development of fermentation process for gaseous isobutene. For this purpose, a series of various sized laboratory scale pilot was conducted. Next in the process was scaling up system and adaptation to the industrial environment. Total finance of 4 million Euro from the French state was attained to meet this novel technical challenge.

The main objective on which the company worked is creation of a fermenter which has been adapted for fermenting gaseous hydrocarbons. The mechanical and functional validations together made the phase longer and the company decided to meet the essential safety conditions for the first trial. Being the first time for production of isobutene through fermentation, this process is highly in discussion in the biotech world. In order to optimize the process and manufacturing samples further, a campaign will be run during upcoming months.
