Succinity, the joint venture of Corbion and Purac to be launched soon

Corbion Purac and BASF joined hands for manufacturing and commercialization of biosuccinic acid. This joint venture is called as Succinity GmbH which is going to start its first commercial production soon. Corbion purac has its plant in Montmelo, Spain with the annual capacity of 10,000 t and production of the commercial quantity for global market is being carried out by this plant. On other hand, succinity is going to launch the second large scale facility for the production of biosuccinic acid. According to the company, the final decision for facility will be made on the basis of a global market’s requirement. Philipp Walter, the manager of Succinity stated that the start up of the first facility for biosuccinic acid in futureis key milestone in the plan for becoming major producer of biosuccinic acid. In Montmelo, Corbion Purac and BASF have ensured achievement of milestone within schedule. They are able to offer services to the growing market of succinic acid.

Basically, Succinity is the process based upon renewable raw materials carrying out fixation of carbon dioxide. Basfia succinici producers, proprietary micro organism offers an opportunity for a flexible usage of various feedstocks.

Succinity successfully produces its first commercially available bio-succinic acid

Succinity GmbH, which is the joint venture between BASF and Corbion Purac for the manufacture and commercialization of bio-succinic acid, has successfully started its first production facility which has the capacity of producing 10,000 metric tons per year for the global market. Succinity is in the process of planning another large-scale facility.

The managing director of Succinity, Philipp Walter believes that this plant is a “key milestone” in achieving their goal of becoming a major producer of bio-succinic acid. He thanked the team in Montmeló where the plant is located on a Corbion Purac site.

The manufacturing process involves the use of renewable raw materials and the fixation of carbon dioxide. Basfia succiniciproducen, which is the patented microorganism, provides flexibility to the usage of various feedstocks. The closed-loop process used in the manufacture of the biobased product ensures that there is no major waste and the downstream processing technique makes sure that the production quality is very high.

The companies have been concentrating on the development of bio-succinic acid since 2009 due to the increasing need of eco-friendly products. This product has a much better carbon footprint than conventional succinic acid and can be applied in the manufacture of a number of products including polyurethanes, bio-polymers, coatings and products of life science.
