Sea World Parks and Entertainment is working to introduce the first refillable plastic cup made up of biomaterials. Earlier than this project, the company worked for removal of plastic contents from theme parks. Now the company is putting emphasis on bioplastics. The recyclable and reusable cup launched by the company is available in all Sea World and Busch Gardens Parks all over the US. For the production of this reusable cup, company gets support from its partner, Coca Cola for using proprietary PlantBottle packaging technology. Under this technique, the conventional plastic is replaced with natural sugars.
Coca Cola introduced its PlantBottle Technology in 2009 during the time it introduced first recyclable plastic bottle developed from plant based materials partially. SeaWorld is planning to apply the plant bottle technology for production of refillable cups so that total 35 metric tons of annual CO2 emissions can be excluded. The main objective of this collaboration among both the companies is to develop a beverage cup made up of sustainable materials.
