CCEI teams up with car and consumer goods companies for renewable plastics research

A research program declared by the University of Delaware for exploring methods regarding renewal of packaging bags, bottles and automotive components is stepping up a new milestone in the direction of industrial revolution. This program will be the joint effort of PET Technology Collaborative and Catalysis Center for Energy Innovation of the University. CCEI and PTC will work in collaboration for development and utilization of totally bio-based materials to manufacture renewable substances. According to the reliable sources, research members of the program will target chemical process for conversion of biomass to basic chemicals for development of sustainable consumer products.

Director of CCEI, Dion Vlachos states that use of sustainable materials for production of bioplastics not only offers flexibility in resources but also address global challenges for introduction of new materials in the bioplastics industry. On the other hand, the co-director of CCEI stated that the proposed material can be used at any proportion for production of economic and flexible products from the business point of view. Mixing the renewable products with petroleum based material simply offers the high level performance. In simple words, the research project is based on the objective of manufacturing superior class plastic that can be utilized in the field of food and beverage packaging, fabric and car parts.
