Genomatica to proceed for development of nylon intermediate to meet international demand

Genomatica possesses eight issued U.S. patents and multiple pending applications internationally for caprolactam and adipic acid. Many options are there for the company for growth of engineering plastics developed with bio-based content. The company declares that majority of nylon intermediates are on focus for the 3rd publicly revealed development program. These intermediates also involve caprolactam, adipic acid and hexamethylenediamine. Moreover, a development process technology is on progress for the production of bio-based materials out of these intermediates. In this way, a rough estimation of the annual market from these three chemicals is more than 18 billion dollars.

Now, the company is engaged in the bio-based process that offers the same chemical that are made up of petroleum based feedbacks. Also, one more thing being taken under consideration in the production is to evaluate economics and sustainability of the product. One more benefit of the opportunity is to avoid the unwanted price rise in oil based plastics; in addition, the products will be eco friendly as per expectation. As the process of developing biobased products include some micro-organisms, cellulose sugar from biomass and conventional sugars comprise the feedstock for them. Nylon intermediates are recovered through the fermentation process.
