Bayer MaterialScience has an intention of bringing the first product based upon PDI in April, 2015. The commercial production of this product will be followed in 2016 with the expectation of about 20K metric tons per annum. The manufacturing of these products will be carried out with the help of the gas phase technology as it is highly energy efficient. The demand of renewable raw materials based products is going higher day by day. According to Bayer MaterialScience, PDI is nothing but a new isocyanate in which 70 percent carbon content belongs to biomass without any generation of direct competition for food manufacturing. For evaluation of some more uses for PDI based raw materials, a comprehensive technology foundation is being worked upon.
