DSM has been granted with pivotal patents in Canada, Japan and Europe for its new succinic acid production technology which is based upon yeast. DSM and Roquette’s joint venture Reverdia is awarded with extensive rights. Actually, the latest patent rules bear key technology which is important for manufacturing of sustainable and economically viable biosuccinic acid. Established in 2010, Reverdia has it’s headquarter in Netherland. It works especially for development and commercialization of biosuccinic acid which is marketed under the name of Biosuccinium.
Most of the succinic acid producers nowadays use fossils resources for this purpose but Reverdia’s Biosuccinium is a replacement for fossil based succinic acid. Leading applications of this succinic acid includes food flavors, pigments, solvents and various kinds of industrial applications.

The company has opened a wide scale biosuccinic plant in Cassano Spinola (Italy) in December. This is the first and only company that employs the yeast technology commercially for conversion of feedstock into succinic acid. The process of production of succinic acid in this way is energy efficient, simple, stable and lesser waste producer. As a result, a high quality product with the best environmental footprint and economics comes up.
