Open Bio, Wageningen UR food & biobased research performs exploration in bio-based products

Wageningen UR Food & Biobased Research is performing research work in standards for bio-products; the research is being commissioned by EU. The research is being performed by using lab works and application of knowledge and experience of NEN, the biobased research and project coordinator. The company is looking for extensive labeling and information on bio-products to meet demand of customers. The main objective to work behind this project is to attain some special characteristics in bio-products such as recyclability, permeability, flexibility, strength and degradability. In order to meet this goal, total 14 research institutes and companies are participating in the project in Europe.

Communication on various features and applications of bio-products is another main objective of this project. The project work is all about examination of communication with authorities, business groups and consumers so that guidelines can be developed for labeling of bio-based products.  On the basis of full package of standards, the research is being followed by the KBBPPS project. The standard test will be carried out taking under consideration the degree of degradation of the product in ocean. Composting and possibilities of conversion in biogas are the two main expectations from the project. Certain stakeholder workshops will be organized in future for supporting the project.
