DSM’s flame-resistant EcoPaXX to be used in Dytech’s fuel vapor separators made for Maserati and Ferrari

Royal DSM, which is an international Material Sciences and Life Sciences company, has announced that its high performance, bio-based EcoPaXX® polyamide 410 has been chosen by Dytech-Dynamic Fluid Technologies for use in fuel vapor separators that it manufactures for Maserati and Ferrari sports cars. This solution is found in EcoPaXX Q-KGS6, which is a halogen free flame retarder, and is an efficient fire safety protection as it combines a high amount of chemical resistance with flame retardancy.

The fuel vapor tank is an important element of any fuel delivery tank found on a road vehicle. It helps keep the evaporating fuel fumes from reaching the atmosphere and it also ensures that the fuel tank pressure is kept stable.

Fuel lines have an outer cover made from a flame resistant thermoplastic, but the fuel vapor separators are still made with the use of flammable polyamide. Dytech opted to use DSM’s innovative flame-resistant EcoPaXX in order to keep up with the fire safety requirements.

EcoPaXX has a high resistance and very low permeability for both conventional gasoline fuel and sustainable E85 fuel as displayed in the SHED test. It has a Maximum Continuous Use Temperature of 175°C which makes it thermally very stable. Apart from its exceptional technical performance in low temperature impact tests and fatigue resistance tests, it is also an eco-friendly material composed of 70% renewable raw materials and is Carbon Neutral.
