Rennovia and JM Davy are partners now

Rennovia and Johnson Matthey Davy Technologies Ltd. (JM Davy) are joining hands for the development, demonstration and commercialization of catalytic processes for the manufacture of bio-based adipic acid and glucaric acid. This collaborated development will be carried out on the basis of Rennovia’s catalytic aerobic technology for the oxidation of glucose to glucaric acid along with the catalytic hyrdrogenation of the glucaric acid to adipic acid.

Adipic acid is a petroleum-based industrial chemical with applications in engineering resins, nylon-6,6 fibers, adipic ester plasticizers and polyester polyols used in polyurethanes. The collaborators aim at the development of a technology which can produce bio-based adipic acid at a lower price than the petroleum-based chemical and also leave a smaller environmental footprint. Glucaric acid is widely used in de-icing, cement, anti-corrosion markets and detergent.

1.5 million tons of chemical products which are bio based and utilized catalytic chemical transformation technology in its production has already been licensed by JM Davy. The company is also the owner of a licensing technology for the production of propylene glycol from glycerin. JM Davy is well-established in the oleochemicals industry and has a wide array of clients including Ecogreen, Pan Century, KLK and others. For these reasons, Rennovia believes that JM Davy is an ideal partner for development and licensing of the bio-based adipic acid and glucaric acid products.
