Stepan and Elevance launches a commercially available surfactant

Stepan and Elevance, after four years of signing a joint R&D contract, have announced the launch of the very first surfactant product. Stepan Company has made it commercially available in the entire world. STEPOSOL® MET-10U, which is a non-ionic surfactant and is a dimethyl amide of an unsaturated C10 methyl ester, is designed to substitute other chemical solvents benzyl alcohol, glycol ethers and others.

For many years, there has been a need for “greener solvents” in the chemical agency which have low volatile organic compound (VOC) and are bio-based. Solvents such as D-Limonene and lactates have never been up to the mark and could not be used to replace a wide range of solvents. STEPOSOL® MET-10U on the other hand has a wide variety of applications and can be used in a number of hard surface cleaning requirements, even in the cleaning of paintbrushes. It can be used to replace a lot of common solvents and offers better performance.

STEPOSOL® MET-10U offers 19 different formulations which allow the formulators to have competitive prices in markets. Its Kauri-butanol value is above 1000, making it a very good cleaning agent. A high boiling point of 297°C makes it a non-VOC compound and with 75% bio-renewable carbon content, it is environmentally sustainable as it is Elevance’s Inherent™ renewable building blocks are used in its production.
